Good news, everybody.
We spoke to the family, and Sean is okay. He’s been checked over by doctors and will be released tonight.
Thanks for keeping him in your prayers and thinking good thoughts. I’m sure his family and friends appreciate it. We’ll talk to Sean as soon as he’s up for it and will have a further update here on UFCjunkie.com tomorrow.
Thanks everyone.

UPDATE 3:11 a.m.: The following is from Sean Salmon (again, we couldn’t be happier to support such a class act):
Hey eveyone, I just got back to the hotel and I’m fine. A little banged up and embaressed, but otherwise ok.
Thank you very much for your thoughts and prayers, it means a lot to me. Maybe now, you can pray that I get a kick defense. hahaha
I will do a blog for UFC Junkie sometime tomorrow covering the whole day of the fight up until right now. I am sorry I’m not getting it done tonight, I am just too tired.
Thank you again for all your support, you guys make dealing with a loss a lot easier.
Sean

Friday, January 26, 2007 at 12:48 am
sean, you did a great job, and i know your pissed with losing but noone can say you didnt win the first round…im glad to know your ok. you took a nasty shot on the ground after the kick even…even couture has been ko’d, cro-cop too, use this to make yourself a better fighter…like you said your improving so fast your next fight will be a whole different ball game…train more stand-up…NOT boxing…kick-boxing…and cardio like an animal…your takedowns were SICK…all in all i was impressed by your performance. it looked like you gassed a bit, but i think it had more to do with the whole adrenaline dump of being your first time in the “BIG SHOW” and like i said…win lose or draw make it exciting and youll gain fans…you did make it exciting and you did gain at least one fan(me) you let it all hang out in the ring. Lick your wounds, watch the footage of your own ko a MILLION times(like every fighter would) and come back stronger from this.
Friday, January 26, 2007 at 12:55 am
That is great. That was a hard KO I am glad to see sean will be ok. Thanks for the update.
Friday, January 26, 2007 at 1:00 am

west coaster here, so I was fortunate to be able to come here for the update right after the fight. Glad Sean is OK and being released. That’s what matters most.

Thanks for the post … that’s good news

I knew sean was going to be a great challenge for rashaad. In all honesty, he’s the first guy I’ve every seen push into rashaad during the weigh-in staredown. I know that he lost and it breaks my heart to see him in that position because that was the MOST inspiring performance that I’ve seen in the MMA for a long time. I felt like that was my brother in there. I really started getting pissed off. But thats the reality of our sport or any sport really. I’m so glad that sean is OK and doing fine! I don’t think -ANYONE- gets up right after being caught with that type of kick either. Also, THANK YOU RASHAAD; You showed genuine concern for a fellow athlete when his wellbeing was in question. I think we’re all proud to see that kind of maturity being exemplified on the field or in ring. Sean will have great success in the MMA. I think he was just getting winded and thats what allowed the kick to come through. Everyone is right in saying, without a doubt, that SEAN SALMON will be back!! Get some rest buddy… We look forward to your return and future success!

No need to be embaressed, Sean. You went out there and gave it your all and we are proud of you. It is not easy to climb in the ring to do battle…but you did so with honor and you have been a class act the whole way. We will continue to support you, Sean. See you in your next fight.
Friday, January 26, 2007 at 4:45 am
I don’t care what these UFCJunkie bastards are payin’ you, Sean, they don’t own you….you deseerve the rest of the night off. Again, glad you are OK.
Rogan commented that we would learn a lot about you in the first minute (Obviously, he hadn’t been checking in here, where I think you’ve been more accessible than any UFC fighter I’ve seen, and shown maturity and humility and a decent sense of humor along with the confidence it takes to be a fighter). Maybe not in the first minute, but I learned that you were straight with us about your wrestling skills, that you can also punch pretty accurately and you actually seem to know where your elbows are.
I also just learned that you care enough about those who support you to show up in the middle of the night to thank them. The guys who run this site strike me as drunken degenerates like me…. Maybe you don’t have to have character to recognize it. Whatever, they picked the right guy to support.
If the embarassment drives you, then let it. But, you put on an exciting fight tonight and did plenty of things right against a very tough fighter. Believe me, you aren’t the guy that has Dana White pulling his hair out tonight over why he hired you. I certainly look forward to seeing you fight again soon.

Friday, January 26, 2007 at 6:26 am
best of luck to sean
Friday, January 26, 2007 at 6:58 am
Sean, thanks for the update. Your first round was amazing and had me on the edge of my seat. I don’t think ANYONE expected Rashad to bring a kicking game to the fight like that.
I look forward to seeing your next fight. I’d hate to be your next opponent!
Friday, January 26, 2007 at 7:16 am
Glad he’s okay.
That was about the weirdest fight I ever watched. I have nothing against Evans, but I can’t remember pulling for a fighter that hard. I guess it was the sponsorship and everything that Salmon did to make himself accessible to fans.
He deserved a lot more than just becoming the crown jewel in Evans’ highlight reel. But he showed a lot out there. He dominated Evans in the first round – not 10-8 dominated – but connected more punches and clearly outwrestled a feared wrestler. Really, I’m encouraged. Work on the conditioning a bit (he looked gassed while still in the first round), square up the stance a little, some more work with a thai boxing coach and lose the jumping snap kick and he could really embarass a some people. The guy looks like he could be a 205-pound Shawn Sherk.
Friday, January 26, 2007 at 7:25 am
Hey Sean. Im glad you’re ok. Keep up the hard work. I was definitely proud of the way you stepped in there and made your presense known. It’s all uphll from here buddy!
Friday, January 26, 2007 at 7:29 am
Sean,
I must say, it’s so awesome that you posted this morning. You are a friggin warrior! I know one of the guys behind this site well. That said, I know you wanted to talk to your fan base and they didn’t force you to post.
This will make a great story when you come back and make a serious mark in the UFC.
You got a first-hand glimpse of what it’s like to be in the octagon with a championship caliber fighter. Dude, you aren’t far off! One home run kick blocked and you would’ve been in great shape to win.
I can’t wait to see you fight again. But please, no more jumpkicks!
Friday, January 26, 2007 at 8:03 am
I’m starting to think the jumpkick thing was a joke. Maybe?
Friday, January 26, 2007 at 8:37 am
Glad you are OK Sean. Your knockout was pretty scary. I was praying for your family. Glad you have a sense of humor about it. I know a lot of guys that would rather have gotten knocked out – then tapped-out.
Friday, January 26, 2007 at 8:43 am
I’m glad Sean’s okay. I’ll be looking for him to get back soon.
Friday, January 26, 2007 at 8:46 am
Sean, it would be emberessing if you got ko’d right off the hop…you showed your wrestling pedigree, and you showed a willingness to strike, which most wrestler really dont. that is what makes a true mma fighter, work the cardio and kick-boxing youll have a bright future.
as for the jump kick i think it could be one of two things…a deliberate attempt to look “amatuer” to maybe make rashad percieve his stand-up as a joke, lure him in so to speak. or maybe it was just an impulse to strike first.
well you gave us all a pretty good scare there sean, im glad to see your not seriously hurt, and im BLOWN AWAY by the level of dedication you have for your fans, truely inspiring, and remember matt serra was the victem of a highlight reel ko early in his ufc career and look where he is now.
Friday, January 26, 2007 at 8:48 am
Hey Sean!
Glad to hear you survived. You had everyone here in Ohio’s stomach in knots all night. Hope your wife can relax a little now! Tell your brother thanks for the text saying you were ok.
BTW. You will most likely go down in history with that knockout! That was top ten material. Great first round. Can’t wait to see more in the future!
O-H!
Friday, January 26, 2007 at 8:52 am
You have no reason to be embarassed. You put up a tough fight and had awesome ground skills. That was one of those things that just happens (Unfortunately it is going to happen over and over by highlight reels), but what does that matter? At least you are getting exposure, and you sure didn’t look like a pu**y to me! Glad to hear you are well, and look forward to seeing you in the octagon soon.
Friday, January 26, 2007 at 8:55 am
Thanks for the update,
Glad to hear Sean is o.k.!
Friday, January 26, 2007 at 9:04 am
Glad to see that you are ok. You had a terrific 1st round and showed everyone you had game, despite the highlight reel kick in the 2nd. I hope we get to see you in the UFC again, and yes, my friend, make sure you get kick defense…your leg was open game, besides the high kick susceptability. Moreover, you came to fight and it was no mismatch. Keep on pluggin, Sean.
Friday, January 26, 2007 at 9:19 am
Sean clearly won the first round. Good fight. Entertaining. Tough ending, but looking forward to his next fight.
Friday, January 26, 2007 at 9:42 am
sean,
you fought well. i am a fan of rashad’s, and i was impressed by your performance. you have shown yourself as a humble man who cares about his fans, and you get that caring back in return. i am a salmon fan too now. last night you were in my prayers, and i’m glad that you are ok. i know you will use your fan support to motivate you and i look forward to seeing you compete again.
Friday, January 26, 2007 at 9:48 am
Sean, no shame in losing, it happens to everyone. You fought well, won the first round, and Im sure everyone will be thrilled to see you back in competition. I’m glad that you are ok.
Friday, January 26, 2007 at 9:49 am
So Glad you are OK….. Rashad was getting owned that 1st round he could not stop your take downs! You are right there, Rashad is going to be a #1 contender and he couldnt beat you at his game (take downs/ground pound), he got fairly lucky with a headkick. Experience is a mother but you will grow and be a fearsome heavywieght! Best of luck and continue to put your all into this! I was very impressed with you!
Friday, January 26, 2007 at 10:11 am
It’s always easy to make suggestions and such from the couch. With that said Sean’s stance could use some work, bring that lead leg back a few inches. I am surprised your opponent didn’t exploit the lead leg more with some leg kicks. I thought Sean was hanging with him pretty well until that devastating kick to the grill. We are all happy to hear you were ok,I was online right away trying to get updates on your condition because we saw you were on the mat for quite sometime and then they didn’t discuss it any further. I also noticed in the post fight interview it was mentioned you were still down and everyone watching at our UFC party was worried. Like I said, happy to see you are ok,that kick was brutal. Keep plugging away Sean!
Friday, January 26, 2007 at 10:14 am
I just wanted to come back in and comment and that jumping kick you tossed out there eraly in the first. Everyone and there mother saw that thing coming. You don’t want to be that brash about showing a kick coming dude.
Friday, January 26, 2007 at 10:14 am
Sean -
You have nothing to be embarrassed about. You clearly took a round against a UFC LHW Championship contender (and this is coming from a Rashad fan) and I think it is widely recognized now that you belong in the UFC. It’s great to hear that you are doing well.
Friday, January 26, 2007 at 10:26 am
Glad your ok. You put on a great fight keep your chin up and we hope to see you back in action soon!
Friday, January 26, 2007 at 10:43 am
Glad to hear everything’s OK. We were definitely worried. Can’t wait to see your next fight, but work on that cardio!!!
(like my fat ass should talk)
Friday, January 26, 2007 at 10:50 am
Glad to hear you’re okay, Sean. You did a fantastic job of taking Evans head-on. Now, it’s time to learn from your mistakes and go tear apart your opponents in your next two fights. Hell of a showing, bro. Really. The only way Rashad could have won that match was by knocking you out. You definitely had his number.
Thanks for sharing so much with the gang here at ufcjunkie. You’re an incredible guy and an inspiration for any fighter who is trying to make it to the big time.
Friday, January 26, 2007 at 11:02 am
Have to agree with the rest of the people here, good to hear that you are ok. And you being embarrassed just means that you wanted it very much and that UFCJunkie knew what they were doing when they picked you to support.
So take a while to recuporate, party for a while and then get back to it. Look forward to seeing you come back and get your UFC stats up to 2-1 at least.
Friday, January 26, 2007 at 11:05 am
I wonder if the ufc will give him another chance after his debut loss ,they dont like fighters who lose in their debut in the ufc . Those UFC contracts can be canceled at any time by the UFC if a fighter lose a fight .
Friday, January 26, 2007 at 11:07 am
Sean, glad your OK. You looked hyped going into the fight and won the 1st round with confidence. great job!
Friday, January 26, 2007 at 11:09 am
I wasn’t going to comment but I feel I have to. Sean is my son-in-law and I am so proud of him. He is a very good fighter but if you have never met him you are really misssing out….Sean is a GREAT person. He is a class act! This past spring I lost my 17 year old son (Sean’s brother-in-law) in a terible drowning accident. I was out of the state on a business trip. Sean was the first one I called. He took care of Missy (his wife) my other 2 daughters and my wife until I could get home. He never left our side. Sean is a MAN in every way! He will recover and come back stronger! Thank you for your prayers and also Thank you UFC Junkie for sponsoring such a class act.
Friday, January 26, 2007 at 11:10 am
Sean will live and learn and be back again! Rashad patiently waited for the high kick and I guarantee when Sean sees the tape he will make sure it never happens again. Here is to a speedy recovery Sean =)
Friday, January 26, 2007 at 11:20 am
yeah , i mean ,wow that kick was awesome ,that shows that rashad is evolving at so fast pace , good job by salmon tough .
Friday, January 26, 2007 at 11:21 am
YOU ARE AWESOME SEAN I AM A FAN FOR LIFE!
I just wanted to say that I was so impressed by you and what you did in that ring. As I told your Mom it takes a tru fighter to get in the ring and show his skill and talent. Anyone could get in a ring and lift their leg and knock someone out. Rahshas knew he had serious competition and that is the reason he did what he did. Rashad was threatened by your ability. Keep training, down the road I would love to see a rematch between you two so you can show him what kind of an athlete you really are. We are all so proud of you. Prayers are with you and your family as you go through these next few days. Take care of yourself and get some rest you deserve it.
Friday, January 26, 2007 at 12:02 pm
Thanks for deciding to comment QB 8. It’s great to hear some background and realize how great a guy he is with the gloves off.
Friday, January 26, 2007 at 12:29 pm
Great performance Sean! Everyone at my place watching the fight thought you put on an exciting match and we hope to see you back! Glad to hear you’re not injured.
Friday, January 26, 2007 at 1:04 pm
Sean, awesome performance. You win some, you lose some. That goes for everyone. You gained a new fan(me) from what you displayed in the first round. I’m glad to see that everything turned out ok from your hospital visit. I’m lookin forward to seein your next fight. “Keep on -Keepin on.”
Friday, January 26, 2007 at 2:00 pm
Sean,
Nothing to be embarrassed about. You got caught. It happens. I’m glad to hear you’re OK – that was a hell of a KO. I hope you get another shot in the UFC soon. Enjoy your vacation with your family.
Friday, January 26, 2007 at 2:00 pm
Sean, you did a good job dude. Like you said, you just need some kick defense. I think you proved you should have been in the UFC, and you aren’t the first guy to lose his first time in the octagon, only to come back in dominating fashion. So, take a break and then let’s see you in there again!
Friday, January 26, 2007 at 2:30 pm
Sean, Great fight! Glad to hear your ok. No doubt you’ll be back better than ever. You have always been the hardest working, most dedicated athlete I have ever met. You definately belong at the top, and showed everyone that you belong in the UFC.
Friday, January 26, 2007 at 2:56 pm
Sean,
You gave a great performance and no doubt won the 1st round. I’m glad to hear that you are OK and will look forward to your return to the UFC. GOD bless!
Friday, January 26, 2007 at 2:56 pm
I’m so glad to hear you are okay. I couldn’t sleep last night worrying about it.
Friday, January 26, 2007 at 4:40 pm
Sean,
thanks for your hard work and having the balls to get in the cage.
God bless and glad to hear your doing ok.
Im sure we will see you again
Friday, January 26, 2007 at 4:55 pm
In all honesty bros and fans, Sean’s my new hero. The stare-down and they way he came out in the first round, says it all!!! Major inspiration!!! I can’t wait to see you fight again! Take it to ‘em brother!!!
Friday, January 26, 2007 at 5:17 pm
Hey Sean,
Glad to hear your ok. You look to me like someone with great potential in the UFC. Get better(injuries) and come back stronger.
Good Luck!!!!!!!!
Friday, January 26, 2007 at 5:23 pm
I thought it was pretty lousy of Rashad to throw those two last punches after you were obviously out.
Friday, January 26, 2007 at 9:38 pm
Killer first round, glad to hear youre ok. Great performance!!!
Friday, January 26, 2007 at 11:29 pm
Hey, Mr. Sean Salmon. I am glad to know that you have recovered and are doing well. As far as the fight goes, honestly, I liked what I saw in you. From the behind-the-scenes warm-up and the fight, you were impressive. Yes, the kick unfortuantely happen to you; but, you still have the goods. Personally, if the UFC is still are goal (and I say that with much respect being a fighter myself), I hope Dana White gives you another shot. You’ve got some impressive skills and nice poise. With more work, you can be a good player in the UFC. God bless you, my man.
Friday, January 26, 2007 at 11:35 pm
Sean, you did a great job last night, other than that kick, but i dont think anyone was expecting that, your uncle rod and i and my mom were actually at the bar watching it since neither of us have cable, we did have the whole end of the bar cheering for ya, take care
Saturday, January 27, 2007 at 12:09 am
I watched the fight and was very mortified by not only the kick to the head, which I fear , may haven broken Sean’s neck, but the punches that followed. I will only feel relieved when I see a LIVE picture of Sean, knowing that he is indeed OKAY and fully functional. My prayers are with him and his family!
Saturday, January 27, 2007 at 12:51 am
Good to hear you are fine. I thought you had him in the first round. Better luck next time.
Saturday, January 27, 2007 at 2:15 am
Sean,
First of all it takes alot of courage to get into the octogan. And second of all the only way to get up is to get knock down first. That’s where the men are seperated from the boys. I can’t wait to see you back in action. Take care of yourself. Enjoy your vacation and see you real soon in the ring.
Saturday, January 27, 2007 at 3:55 am
Yep, that was a good kick. And Rashaad was only trying to end the fight when he added 2 additional strikes when shawn was down. When you’re in the ring it can be tuff to hold back especially at this level, because as you’ve seen, guys recover very quickly and can turn the fight around even quicker. I do believe however that Dana White has to mandate the refs and fighters do a better job at protecting the fighters who are in a defenseless position such as being caught by a ko punches or kicks. The ref has to protect the athletes. I guarantee you, sean gets up before the winner is announced if the late punches don’t land. So far this is the only place I think UFC has to improve. And obviously there’s still going to be plenty of bloodshed and ko’s for the viewers to see. But, in the worlds most competative sport (imho) it won’t be worth following the sport if we end up losing not just good fighters or athletes, but quality human beings. NOTE TO UFC: regulate the late blows.
And one last comment to add, Sean Salmon is as TUFF as they come.
Saturday, January 27, 2007 at 7:55 am
Great thanks for the info
Saturday, January 27, 2007 at 8:43 am
First I would like to say I am a Rashad Evans fan, that being said Sean you fought an incredible first round, and your take downs were incredible and you put everyone on notice, with more experience, more time in the octagon, you will be one of the top fighters in your division. I am glad you are doing well and my prayers were with you. Don’t feel bad, you just got caught happens to the best of them, and I think that if you stick with it you will be one of the top fighters. Thanks a new fan.
Saturday, January 27, 2007 at 10:36 am
Good to see your ok…yes the kick look really hard..but you did win the first round. I think Rashad had to many fights under his belt.
Saturday, January 27, 2007 at 4:53 pm
I wish the UFC had said something on the air though about your condition but I’m glad to hear you’re ok.
Saturday, January 27, 2007 at 6:40 pm
Sean, you will have to let me know when your next fight is so if your uncle rod goes and i have the time and money i would love to go, glad to hear you are doing better, you looked good, and tomorrow is another day
Sunday, January 28, 2007 at 12:12 am
well done sean, i would be embarrassed too but its a waste of time. Like everyone else said, you took the first round from a great fighter and got caught. keep your head up. And keep it up in the ring too. Sons and daughters and wives are more important than wins. enjoy the vacation
